Anastasiia Morozova: From Botanical Art to Travel Sketching
Today on Wet on Wet, I’m joined by Anastasiia Morozova, the artist behind Natura Illustrata.
Anastasiia’s artistic journey has taken her from highly detailed botanical and nature-inspired watercolor paintings to travel sketching and documenting the world around her.
But a major turning point came when Anastasiia and her husband travelled through Southeast Asia for five months. During the trip, she gave herself one simple challenge:
One sketch every day.
She kept that promise—and the experience completely changed the way she approached art.
In this episode, we talk about her journey from botanical illustration to travel sketching, her fascination with nature, and how travelling helped her rediscover the joy of simply making art.
In This Episode
- Anastasiia’s journey from botanical art to travel sketching
- Why she became fascinated by nature and botanical illustration
- Her five-month journey through Southeast Asia
- The “one sketch a day” challenge
- Why sketching can be much harder than it looks
- Anastasiia’s relationship with watercolor
- Combining watercolor with pens and other media
- Moving away from perfectionism
- Learning to enjoy the creative process
- How she is changing the way she creates content for her audience
- Why travel sketching has become such a powerful way to document experiences
One of my favourite parts of this conversation is Anastasiia’s realization that she didn’t just want to love the finished painting—she wanted to enjoy the process of making it too.
That shift away from perfectionism and toward enjoying the act of creating is something many artists can relate to.
If you enjoy watercolor, urban sketching, travel sketchbooks, botanical art, or simply want to understand how artists find and develop their creative path, I think you’ll really enjoy this conversation.
